The KACE Systems Deployment Appliance (formerly K2000) stands out for its ability to support not just OS imaging, but unattended installations. Pre and post installation tasks can be easily assigned to perform system specific changes outside the imaging/installation process.

It provides out of the box support for image and file based deployments of Windows desktops and servers as well as Intel based Mac operating systems.

The KACE Systems Deployment Appliance can help to harvest drivers and can alert you to systems you may be about to image for which the necessary drivers are not ready to deploy in order to help you avoid failed migrations.

KACE was reluctant to introduce multicasting and when it finally did, it chose a technology incompatible with many popular networking devices. Recently corrected, multicast is finally available (or soon to be available depending on when you read this).

  • Multiple Deployment Mechanisms

    The KACE Systems Deployment Appliance supports imaging and unattended installation. This is key to supporting best practices in that it is best to create your gold image using an unattended installation so that it can be easily reproduced, documented and updated in the future. By supporting both, you can automate installing the OS and capturing an image as well as the deployment of the image to one or more systems. For Windows it supports WIM image deployments as well as its own K-Image file based deployment which can minimize data transfer by sending only the files not already present on the target system (helpful to speed upgrades).

  • Remote Site Support

    The KACE Systems Deployment Appliance provides remote site support by installing a virtual appliance on a workstation or server at the remote site and using it as a source in the deployment of systems to avoid sending such a large payload over the WAN more than once. One can also copy it to remote sites manually if even that initial copy of the image is too much for the network.

  • Unique Driver Capabilities

    Driver support is one of the uglier aspects of OS deployment and the KACE Systems Deployment Appliance offers a solution to this. It can detect and confirm if the drivers to support target systems are available and makes it easier to introduce such drivers to the deployment process. A driver harvesting feature can actually interrogate remote systems to identify and collect drivers in order to add support for them in the deployment process.
