“Automatically package and deploy software and operating systems, patch vulnerabilities, and discover software and hardware assets across desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and servers.”Symantec
As a solution, I could write an article about each suite, but have elected to address the add-ons as features to include (with the exception of Ghost covered here).
Deployment Solution itself is targeted at deploying and managing servers, laptops, and desktops. It offers OS deployment, configuration, PC “personality” migration, and software deployment across hardware platforms and OS types (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and Unix).
It features a web-based console and can configure new systems using imaging, scripting or a combination of the two methods. It can handle user profile migration and is integrated with Symantec Management Platform which is the building block on which all the available add-ons operate to provide a scalable solution in support of large, distributed environments.
Key things to know
Asset Management Suite
Asset Management Suite discovers, inventories, and tracks hardware and software assets in your IT infrastructure through a CMDB. The CMDB manages assets’ hierarchical relationships to other configuration items, users, locations, departments, cost centers, and associated contracts. As with most Asset Management solutions, its goal is to help manage compliance, uncover opportunities for savings, and minimize the administrative burden of managing vendors’ contracts, such as hardware, maintenance, warranties, support contracts, and leases.
Client Management Suite
Symantec Client Management Suite offers OS deployment, configuration, PC “personality” migration, and software deployment across hardware platforms and OS types. It can also detect and repair security vulnerabilities for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems as well as Microsoft and over 50 non-Microsoft applications.
Server Management Suite
The Server Management Suite provides solutions to provision, control, automate, and monitor servers from a central console. It can automate new server deployments and technology refresh cycles with zero-touch imaging, scripting, or a combination of the two for bare-metal provisioning or re-imaging. Configure BIOS, RAID devices, user/network settings, drives, services, location, and more as part of an automated provisioning process. With servers no commonly virtualized, it adds value by providing a consistent management framework across VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V. For example you can view a consolidated mapping of your virtualization infrastructure, see host/guest relationships, and can perform tasks such as creating virtual machines, modifying settings, and changing power states.
