Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Bring your own device (or BYOD) may be a tired buzz word, but it is no less relevant. The ability to distinguish and manage business applications and data from personal application and data is critical to managing devices owned by end users and is equally important if your corporate culture encourages personal use on corporate owned devices.

Such a challenge is typically addressed by providing technology to support a secure container for business data (or support for dual Personas). With such a distinction possible, features such as remote wipe can be limited to corporate data while preserving all personal data.

This BYOD technology typically also offers the ability to control how users interact with the data. For example, it may block the ability to cut/copy/paste in business applications or when viewing business data. Additionally you may be able to prevent users on managed devices from deleting specific apps or documents.

This is one of many enterprise mobility management (EMM) features covered here at AppDetails. When considering what features are important to you, we recommend you also contemplate the importance BYOD, MDM, MAM and UEM capabilities along with other common mobile management features.
