Delivery Model

While certainly not unique to the Systems Management market, the delivery model for a solution is often a key factor in selection. Most today want choice, as in a solution that can be installed on premises or in the cloud based on the needs of the organization (or site within an organization). Cloud delivery is increasingly in demand, despite many not yet being comfortable with it as a delivery model for Systems Management. A Systems Management solution is very powerful, but in the wrong hands very damaging. Hosting such a solution in the cloud isn’t something most are willing to accept today, but most surveyed report that they can see the day coming when they are.

Not quite a delivery model, but a related set of criteria is the MSP model (or Managed Service Provider model). A systems management provider may host such services in the cloud, or on their own hosted infrastructure. The requirements of an MSP are more focused on how easy it is to both segment and selectively reuse efforts between customers they support. A multi-tennant environment is often a key consideration for an MSP; that is an environment where they can install the solution once and then run it to support multiple customers from both a security and licensing perspective.
