Monitoring Products provide a means to watch for lapses in availability or specific alerts for which you may want to take action. Depending on the solution and its integration with systems management capabilities or service desk, may automate remediation or generate a ticket to see that it is manually addressed. Such is often limited to servers but some extend this to desktops (though typically limited to mission critical desktops for practical reasons).
